Every Singaporean NSman who has completed full-time National Service enters the Operationally Ready NS (ORNS) phase. During this phase you are liable for up to 10 In-Camp Training (ICT) cycles, typically one per workout year, until you reach MR (Mindef Reserve / Operationally Ready). MR age is 40 for most ranks and 50 for officers and senior commanders. ICT call-ups in Singapore are issued via the and SAF1800, usually 4–6 months in advance.
Deferments are possible for Key Appointment Holders, essential service workers, students sitting major examinations, and NSmen with overseas work commitments. Submit deferment requests through the NS Portal at least 3 months before the ICT date for the best chance of approval.
